Seminars plus Update

Hi,

Bus Seminar

This was very successful and very busy. I am happy to try to do another  in Plumstead in July if people are up for it, please let me know if you fancy it and I will try to arrange.

Instructor/Intensive Training

To confirm that the forthcoming Instructor/Intensive Training Course will commence this Thursday 9 June at 8am at Urban Kings gym, Kings Cross,  Central London. See here for the place map:

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/place?oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=urban+kings+gym&fb=1&gl=uk&hq=urban+kings+gym&hnear=0x48760378cf4fae73:0x74f70bc4fa0e26cb,Camberwell&cid=8480631646953732908

Basically,  come out of Kings Cross main exit, look to your left at 3 o’Clock and you will see a Macdonalds, walk towards and then past the Macdonalds on your left,  go past a Starbucks and turn left immediately up the alley. You will see the Gym. It’s about a minute’s walk from Kings Cross.

Equipment

Bring groin and gum protection. Boxing Gloves,  MMA gloves and shinpads will also be required; please bring along if you have any, if not you can borrow from what is a very well equipped gym.  Bring a couple of spare shirts to each day’s session.

Nutrition

There are a lot of stores in the area but I would bring along some energy bars, water/sports drink to each session.

Insurance

If you are not a member of the British Combat Association already  you can buy fully comprehensive insurance from that organisation for 3 months for only £6 which will cover the duration of this course, basically this covers you for a couple of million pounds in the unlikely event that somebody sues you if you accidentally hurt them during training –  this cover includes dental expenses, legal fees etc. It’s unlikely that this will happen but I would prefer you to have it in place.
If you’re planning on attending, please let me know your full name and date of birth so I can get the insurance in place.

For those of you doing the Instructor training, just a reminder that we will discuss at the course how we ensure that any teaching you do after the course does not conflict with that undertaken by existing Urban Krav Maga instructors, how we market your classes,  grading students, how we manage relations with other Krav Maga/Self defence  organisations etc.

Our system compared

Always pleasing when people join us from other styles and are complimentary about our approach. Interesting that what they seem to appreciate is the focus on realistic attacks and leveraged technique rather than punching, a very unleveraged technique that screws your hands

The Direct Approach

As ever, we’ve had a few people from different styles join us over the last few weeks. Interesting on how many comment on the directness of that which we do compared to some of the stuff they have done in the past. They seem to have been programmed to respond with a level of complexity very tough to do under stress. Important training point: replicate stress, fear, tiredness as much as you feasibly can in the dojo to test your techniques.  And do realistic attacks: e.g. nobody stabs you and leaves their stabbing hand hanging in the air so you can do a wristlock.

Lancashire Catch Wrestling

Helped out with a seminar up in Manchester yesterday, unfortunately could not stay but saw a wee bit of the Lancashire Catch Wrestling session. Would love to arrange a seminar for this down here in London, any interest?

Article on 10 Martial Arts Compared

See the link to my Blog for my article comparing 10 well-known Martial Art disciplines. This will be appearing in a shortened form in Nuts Magazine in July. This sort of stuff always causes pain and controversy, so I’ll be interested in feedback. Civil please; no tough boy posturing. I’m blogging regularly now so check it out more often.
